Reddit IAmA Interview – Jennifer Delgado, CEO of Freeman Construction

Reddit will host an upcoming IAmA (Ask Me Anything) interview with Jennifer Delgado, CEO of Freeman Construction,

The session will give Reddit users the opportunity to ask questions about running a construction company in South Florida, overseeing residential and commercial projects, navigating permitting and compliance, and maintaining consistent quality in a competitive market. Jennifer will share real-world insight based on hands-on experience rather than theory.

The discussion is expected to cover industry challenges, leadership, project management, and how Freeman Construction approaches accountability, craftsmanship, and long-term client trust. The goal is to provide transparency into how construction decisions are made both on and off the job site.

Freeman Construction looks forward to engaging with the Reddit community and continuing open conversations that help set higher standards across the industry.

IAMA Q and A with Jennifer Delgado

Q: What do you like to do in your free time? And what is your work life balance like nowadays?
A: In my free time I enjoy watching telenovelas and going out with friends on weekends, though right now Florida feels unusually cold. At work we enforce a strict 9 AM to 5 PM schedule. After 5 PM no one is expected to deal with work tasks. We do not do forced social events or unpaid work outside office hours. I set this policy because I have had past experiences with companies that demanded unreasonable time commitments which took away from personal life.

Q: Why did you emphasize that your company is “all male” rather than talking about its achievements?
A: The phrasing of the AMA title was chosen to reflect how Reddit likes to frame topics and to spark honest discussion about working in a male-dominated industry. It wasn’t meant to detract from the company’s achievements. Originally other title formats were considered, but this one felt more engaging for the community.

Q: What is your personal background and how did you get to where you are today?
A: I’m originally from Cuba and came to the United States when I was 10. I studied at a local university. My career began as a marketing consultant at Freeman where I worked closely with the CEO. Over more than 10 years I worked my way up, proving myself. About 6 or 7 years ago I was appointed to lead Freeman Construction. My ambition, desire to grow, and the professional relationships I built helped me get here.

Q: With you being the CEO do you consider hiring more women into your company?
A: Absolutely. My executive assistant and other key roles including architects are filled by women. They are there because they are the most skilled and the best fit for the job. Their gender does not determine their placement; excellence does. You can see some of the women on the team if you visit the company website.

Q: In dealing with clients and projects what are the priorities for your company?
A: The AMA included a detailed reply about how we handle leads and client expectations. For example, we prioritize quick response times on leads — answering within minutes if possible — and we do not use AI or automated replies. Being timely, on budget, and stress free for clients is core to our approach.

Q: What important lessons have you learned from being CEO and how do you handle stress and responsibility?
A: One of the biggest lessons has been learning to respect and value every member of the team and to delegate properly. Part of being a leader is trusting that your team will do their best without micromanagement. You also must learn not to set unrealistic expectations. Every contractor has their own work style so building synergy among many strong-willed individuals is key.

Q: Do people ever mistake you for someone else based on your name or appearance?
A: One person asked if she often gets mistaken for being female, to which she playfully responded that she didn’t feel the need to answer that one.

Q: What role does your husband play in the company?
A: My husband is his own person. He runs a different company entirely. We prefer to focus on our own professional goals rather than work together.

Q: Do you offer career advice for people looking to get into construction or project management?
A: While not explicitly formatted as career advice, her responses about handling leads, prioritizing responsiveness, and maintaining high standards reflect what she sees as important practices for success in the field.
