Custom Made Sauna Details
For a recent private residence, our team at Freeman Construction designed and built a fully custom sauna tailored to both the space and the lifestyle of the homeowner. From the start, the focus was on creating a clean, modern retreat that felt like a high-end spa while still fitting seamlessly into the home. We carefully selected heat-treated wood for durability and comfort, shaping every bench, wall panel, and detail in-house to ensure a precise, polished finish.
The sauna features a custom ventilation system to maintain consistent heat circulation and air quality, along with concealed LED lighting integrated into the ceiling and bench lines for a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The heater was positioned for optimal performance and efficiency, allowing the space to reach temperature quickly while maintaining even heat throughout. Every element, from the door hardware to the insulation behind the walls, was chosen to maximize longevity, safety, and performance.

The Challenge Of Project
The renovation and full furnishing of the Avana Plastic Surgery Center presented several unique challenges that required strategic planning, precise execution, and continuous coordination with medical professionals and regulatory teams. These key challenges shaped our approach and ensured the final facility met the highest standards of safety, functionality, and compliance:
- Premium Heat-Treated Wood Construction: The sauna was constructed using carefully selected, heat-treated wood specifically designed to perform in high-temperature, high-humidity environments. Each panel was precision-cut and installed to ensure dimensional stability, resistance to warping, and a smooth, refined finish that enhances both durability and long-term visual appeal.
- Custom Bench & Ergonomic Seating Design: The interior seating was fully custom-built with multiple bench heights to accommodate different comfort and heat preferences. Structural reinforcement was integrated into the framing, while all seating surfaces were hand-finished with rounded edges to provide a safe, comfortable, and visually cohesive seating layout.
- Integrated Ventilation & Airflow Control System: A concealed ventilation system was engineered to promote consistent heat distribution and continuous fresh air exchange. This system prevents heat stratification, reduces humidity buildup, and maintains a balanced environment that allows the sauna to operate efficiently and comfortably during extended sessions.
- High-Efficiency Sauna Heater Installation: The heating unit was professionally installed and positioned for optimal performance, allowing for rapid warm-up times and precise temperature control. Heat shielding, clearances, and electrical connections were executed to meet safety standards while maximizing energy efficiency and consistent heat output.
- Concealed LED Mood Lighting Integration: Indirect LED lighting was thoughtfully integrated behind bench lines and ceiling elements to create a soft, ambient glow throughout the space. The lighting design enhances relaxation, highlights the natural wood textures, and provides sufficient visibility without introducing harsh or distracting light sources.
- Moisture-Resistant Insulation & Vapor Barrier System: Behind the finished surfaces, high-performance insulation and a continuous vapor barrier were installed to retain heat and protect surrounding structural components. This system minimizes energy loss, prevents moisture migration, and helps preserve the integrity of the sauna and adjacent spaces over time.
- Precision Finish & Safety-Focused Detailing: Every detail, from heat-rated glass and hardware to concealed fasteners and smooth transitions, was carefully selected and installed with safety and longevity in mind.
